Circular Economy Leaders Consortium Tours City of Mississauga’s Hazel McCallion Central Library
On March 27th, 2024, Partners in Project Green’s Circular Economy Leaders Consortium (CEC) was hosted by the City of Mississauga. The group first heard about the City’s waste diversion metrics and initiatives, then toured the newly renovated Hazel McCallion Central Library, which diverted 120,064 kg (about 264,695.5 lb.) of material from landfill.
The group heard about the City’s diverse approach to reducing and diverting waste, with a focus on City operations and community events. One program that was showcased was the dog waste collection containers that are scattered around 18 parks. This program will ensure that dog waste is being diverted from landfill and properly disposed of.
Before sitting down for an informal networking lunch, the team was taken on a tour of the newly renovated Hazel McCallion Central Library. In addition to the immense waste diversion initiatives during the closure of the library, the CEC learned about the Makerspace, a service within the library which promotes creativity, skills development, community learning, and repair.
Thank you for your hospitality and the informative tour and presentation, City of Mississauga!
